Rationale My criticism of overly pragmatic summer planning arises form the observation that those plans are typically made in the absence of students and always done in the absence of the group of students for whom the units are planned. We know from Constructivist learning theory that truly effective and meaningful lessons are planned in response to the learners. Given this character of effective classroom instruction, it is essential that summer professional development for teachers both provide adequate plans that teacher can implement during the school year, but also develop the understanding to modify their plans according to the needs of students that emerge during the school year. |
