Anticipated syllabus for Web-based Power Tools for Learning, a 3-credit graduate course in education proposed by Gary L. Ackerman for the summer of 2007

Description: As the Internet has matured, a number of tools that can be applied to long recognized needs to teachers and students. In this course, educators will identify those of particular usefulness to their situation and develop strategies for integrating those tools into their classrooms. In addition, participants will develop strategies for sustaining effective technology-rich learning.

Primary course project:Participants will compile a collection of "Technology Integration Ideas" which will be posted on the web. Each idea will include details of the target audience, indiciate content standards met through the integration, and provide a synopis of the technology and a suggested classroom use.

Supporting course projects:Participants will develo "Strategy Summaries" that reognize the ethical, legal, and social issues related to educational technlogy in their community and outline a plan for addressing those issues through their classroom.

Reflection:Participants wil write a 3-5 page reflective paper that focuses on the two or three critical tools, approaches, or issues each believes will best prepare students for the 21st century.
