University of Vermont, Burlington, Vermont

Taconic-Learning  :: Graduate Courses & Institutes  ::  EDLI 277
EDLI 277 is a 3-credit graduate level course offered through the University of Vermont. The course is typically offered in the fall semester of even years; it was last offered in the fall semester in 2004, and the next anticipated semester is fall of 2006. Most students who enroll in the course are completing the 18-credit Library Media Studies Sequence at UVM; those who finish that sequence are eligible for certification as K-12 librarians in Vermont.

Purpose of the Course

Information Technology for School Library Media Centers is a hybrid course which includes in-person sessions, interactive television sessions, and web-based sessions. Because of the use of technology to deliver the content, the course provides a unique situation in that the medium is the message.

Rationale

Because technology influences many activities and decisions within a school library and because so many activities and decisions influence technology decisions, the topics that can fall within the domain of this course are diverse. To address such a diverse field and to make it meaningful for individuals who bring diverse situations and backgrounds to the course, much of the coursework allows students to adapt the course requirements to their individual needs. Much of the coursework asks students to study, understand, and solve technology problems and solutions that arise in real libraries.
