In recent years computer technology has become widely available in our communities... it appears that about 60% of US homes have computers with broadband Internet access... and we know that young people are high users of digital media.

As young people have become high users of digital media, they have become active contributors to the emerging digital content.

Although few would argue that modern digital communication systems are a "bad" thing, we are becoming aware of some negative affects of unfettered access to information networks for people, but adults and youth.

This page will focus discussion to help parents and other adults understand the digital activities of today's youth, and suggest strategies for guiding young people to positive ways.

This discussion is predicated on these assumptions:

  • Young people are facile users of digital technology

  • Adults should play an active role in encouraging the healthy and     contentious user of information technology

  • Adults need to catch-up and stay informed
